CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP RULES    Last Updated: 18 April 2008

The Championship is designed to allow everyone to compete on a handicapped basis. You run against a time set for your current performance and age and score points according to how well you do against your personal target. It's fun, it helps improve your fitness, and you'll get lots of support from other club runners. So don't delay, enter the next event and you could find yourself on the winners rostrum.

Objectives
1. To encourage maximum participation of club members
2. The championship will be run in 2 series - a short and a long series
3. The short series will consist of races over 1 mile, 5 k, 5 miles and 10k; the long series will consist of races over 5 miles, 10k, 10 miles and half marathon.
4. The committee will recommend races for each series but any official race at these distances can be used to submit a time, including club races.

Target Times
1. Each member will be given target times for each distance, calculated from previous races and adjusted according to the runner's age when it was set. Times of previous races are compared to age-related world best times to give a relative performance score. The relative performance score from members' race results is then used to derive age-adjusted targets.
2. Runners will be given target times if at least 3 confirmed race times have been registered in the previous two years
3. Runners who have less than 3 confirmed race times in the last two years will be set target times when 3 results are received (previous two year results will be included in the count of races). These runners will then only be eligible for the novice championship prizes.
4. Where there is no time available to be used in setting targets, the relative performance score from the next shorter distance will be used. For 1 mile targets, the next available longer race distance will be used.
5. Performance Scores (used to calculate target times) will be reviewed annually.

Scoring
1. Results must be submitted to the championship secretary with a supporting official record (note that the runners own start to finish time will be used if provided)
2. Races must be run between 1st March and 28th February (following year) inclusive
3. Points are awarded by comparing actual time against target time; the percentage of dividing Target time by actual time is converted to points by multiplying by 100
4. Runners may enter any appropriate distance race and submit a time; for example, if you have run a 10 k and you think you can improve, you can continue to enter and submit a 10K result. The best result will count.
5. Total championship points will be the sum of the best scores over the selected race distances. Maximum sore for any one distance is 110; the minimum score is 95.

Prizes
1. No one can win a prize in both the long and short championships.
2. In the event of someone being in a championship prize position in both the long and short championships, the long championship takes precedence.
3. Prizes will be awarded to the first three runners in the short championship and the first three runners in the long championship after precedence rule 2 applies.
4. After applying precedence rule 2, the next highest scores will be used until 3 prizes are awarded.
5. The newcomers championship will be decided by counting the total score across all 6 race distances. Three prizes will be awarded.
