Q: Why is the championship year based around the Milton Keynes Marathon dates rather than the club membership year?
A: Many club members will be training hard for spring marathons (eg Brighton, London & MK), entering races and getting quicker as part of their training. The MK Marathon also has a half marathon, which may also be a target for many club runners. Previous proposals to end the championship In February were passed in a committee meeting, but never implemented.

Q: Can you explain “core events”?
A: The main reasons for re-working the championship is to increase participation and team spirit. By identifying “core events” it is expected there will be a high LFR turn-out for these events, and that will by default increase participation and awareness of the club championship.

Q: What if I cannot attend any of the core races?
A: We plan to announce at least four 10K core races and 4 HM Core races. We would expect members to be able to attend at least one of each type of event. If needed we can add more core events to the timetable.

Q: When will you publish the core events?
A: As soon as possible

Q: Why has the 1 mile been dropped?
A: There are no road 1 mile races anywhere in the country, so having this in our club championship seemed at bit odd, although the Club Captain may from time to time decide to hold a 1mile night for the benefit of those that want to run it, but this will not form part of the Championship.

Q: Why are the 5M and 10M not core events?
A: These “imperial distance” races are few and far between. Naturally you can still submit times from these races, but it is no longer compulsory. Again,

the Club Captain may from time to time decide to hold these events on a night, like the “tough 5” for the benefit of those that want to run it, but this will not form part of the Championship.

Q: Could we have “bonus points” for core races to encourage attendance?
A: No. Everybody has to do core races (hence the wording), so everybody would get a bonus, and hence negate the point of having a bonus. The club intends to offer other incentives for entering core races (details to follow)

Q: Will the club still run the watchless races?
A: The new route for the 5M event was very popular, so, yes this will be run and re-measured for better accuracy as it will be eligible for the club championships. Maybe we’ll host it in the summer ? The watchless 10 is poorly attended and run on an unsafe route.

Q: Will the club still run the 1 mile championship?
A: No, although the Club Captain may from time to time decide to hold these events on a night, like the “1 mile” for the benefit of those that want to run it, but this will not form part of the Championship.
