Each year, LFR nominate a charity at our AGM and we hold regular events throughout the year to try to raise as much funds for the charity as possible and promote awareness of them. Funds are raised through events such as our monthly 5caKe night (we run 5K, we eat cake), our annual breakfast run which took place just over a week ago raising £420 for the charity and our club races, the Leighton 10K and the brand new Leighton 5K.
We are delighted to announce that the club’s charity for the year 2018/19 will be Brain Tumour Research, a charity based in Milton Keynes.
Brain tumours are indiscriminate; they can affect anyone at any age. What’s more, they kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer… yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease. Brain Tumour Research is determined to change this. They are the only national charity in the UK that is purely dedicated to raising funds for continuous and sustainable scientific research into brain tumours and are a leading voice calling for greater support and action for research into what scientists are calling the last battleground against cancer.
