  COMMITTEE ROLES  Last Updated: 27 April 2006

Chairman: To manage Club Committee and General Meetings. To encourage the input and debate of ideas/issues which promote the Club and its objectives. To advise and support members in the running of the Club. To ensure that the rules of the Club and Affiliated bodies are followed and that Officers carry out their duties effectively.

Treasurer: To manage the club funds, bank account and keep the club's accounts. To collect annual and weekly subscriptions. To order club kit.

Membership Secretary: To manage club memberships. To collect membership fees and issue club membership cards. To assist the treasurer in the collection of weekly subscriptions.

Secretary: To write and distribute the minutes of the committee meetings, process club correspondence, organise AGM. To keep the race book up to date, to find races through running magazines, websites etc and obtain entry forms. 

Club Captain: To represent the club as the captain at all appropriate functions. To promote the club to other clubs and to all members. To encourage and welcome all members of the club. To produce a bi-monthly run diary and distribute to club members. To announce messages at club nights and to act as a focal point for information. To lead the club night warm-up sessions. To encourage all members to participate in club events. Act as Youth Protection Officer, namely ensure that all youth members of the club are treated fairly, supported and encouraged. To pursue any complaints raised by youths with the appropriate authorities. To ensure the Youth protection Policy is upheld. To maintain and amend the Youth Protection policy as necessary.

Club Vice Captain: The vice captain would preferably of the opposite sex to the club captain. Duties - to support the club captain and carryout the duties in his/her absence. To represent the Club at Cross Country League Meetings (2-3 per year). To encourage members to participate in the cross country races. To manage cross country race administration for the Club (Registration, fees, scoring etc).

Publicity Secretary: Liaise with local papers and running magazines etc to publicise events organised by the club. Provide the local paper with the results of races of members.

Championship Secretary: Organising and setting handicap times for the club 5 mile and 10 mile championships. Setting target times for the club championship races. Monitoring press reports to keep a check on race results from non championship races to keep form database up to date.

Social Secretary: Primarily concerned with the organisation of social events and occasions. This may include getting ideas from other members, sorting out the most appropriate/popular date and getting quotes for transport + events themselves.

General Committee Member: To assist the above committee members and officers in carry out their duties.

All: To be an active Committee member through the year. To join the sub-committees. To welcome new members and ensure that no one is left to run alone.
