12 February 2008 This page provides the reports of the Cross Country Championship (see Rules and Scoring). Dunstable 28th October 2007 The first race of the season at the almost local Dunstable course around the Downs. Unseasonably warm weather and a distinct lack of rain meant that the usually inches of mud that would cling to the running shoes were thankfully missing. Driving drizzle at the top of Heartbreak Hill did not deter our runners with some very credible performances for the first trip out on country routes since February. Once again, the club managed to put out over 30 runners (33 this time, a record for the first race) despite missing several of our speedier people. e. A great turn out for this run with a fantastic 31 runners ( a record!) and really good efforts by everyone. No comments on individual performances, as this is a team event, but ... one of our newest recruits Jacqui Cox finished 21st in the women's category whilst Paul Douglas finished in 30th just edging out Mick Kelly. Also, we had two family teams - both the Kirwans and the Hullys fielded three family members. Finally, we know Doug Lamont is used to travelling 700 miles to run but he has found another runner - Avril Machlachlan - to join us on the cross country - fantastic and great determination. Well done to all. Two laps later and the rain has stopped, the sun had shone and the runners had all finished in an increased entry of almost 400 runners. A weakened men's contingent put in some credible performances though we missed our fast runners; however, the ladies team were boosted by some fine performances and ended up 5th out of 11 - congratulations to all lady runners who helped push other teams lower down the table. Well done to the 36 runners who competed and overcame the sheep droppings and the rotten second lap (well, the final hill was tough!). Lots of photos - click here North Herts. 16th December 2007 Fresh, chilly weather greeted the runners for the middle race of the season. For those who do not know, this is a fairly hilly course, mainly downhill on the way out and (it seems) an even bigger hill on the way back with a nasty hill rise to the finish. A respectable turn out of 24 runners battled round the frozen course and put it good efforts, though a lack of our faster runners meant we ended with an 8th position in the teams. Once more, Yvette brought along a contingent of runners from Milton Keynes to help boost our numbers, for some a first taste of cross country. Ampthill 13th January 2008 Pleasant weather and a grand performance by the team with 27 runners scoring well to chalk up 7th place. East Haddon 10th February 2008 The last race of the season saw our smallest team of 23 runners battle bravely across a hilly course with plenty of mud. Fine sunny weather made the last slog up the country lane hill less of a torture than it could have been. Well done to all runners who have helped to secure 7th place in the league. . |
