LFR offers a range of sessions for all running abilities, from beginners taking their first steps into running, right through to Ultra marathoners.

Membership (min age 18) includes access to three scheduled club nights a week; Tuesday club runs with a range of paces and distances from 5k upward, Thursdays are reserved for sessions for those looking to improve. LFR also organise regular club events to races across the country, social events and member benefits.

The membership period runs from 1st April to 31st March of the following year. Runners may benefit from EA affiliation, which is of course optional. By having EA affiliation you consent to allow LFR to provide your details to EA.
This affiliation allows entry to EA affiliated races at discounted rates as well as entry rights to the club ballot for London Marathon places. For further info, click on the England Athletics image below.

Membership Benefits

Tuesday Nights

LFR runs a club night every Tuesday, with a variety of different runs from leader-based runs grouping you by ability to more social-oriented runs. Depending on the time of year, we run trail, off-road and road routes.  Once a month, the club night run is a 5k timed route followed by tea and cake back at the clubhouse. The aim of the club runs is to provide a safe and enjoyable environment, offering a platform for runners to improve should they wish to do so, or to enjoy a social run with friends.

Performance Training

LFR meets every Thursday night for improvement based training. The sessions are lead by fellow club members who are passionate instructors, driven by a desire to help you improve and reach your goals.  You can read more about what LFR offers in the Coaches Corner.

Expert Seminars

From time to time the club will host sessions led by local experts covering topics that may be useful and interesting to the running community. Popular sessions have included podiatry, dynamic movement and sports photography, with future sessions including nutrition and running form planned. The sessions are often free to members although sometimes a discounted rate may be applicable.

Social

The club has a strong social scene and regularly arranges events like club trips, quiz night runs and our popular fancy dress invite runs.  We also organise a number of non-running related social events like family picnics, BBQ’s and even the odd night out on the town.

English Athletics Affiliation

The club offers two levels of membership depending on whether or not you choose to affiliate with England Athletics (EA) who are the governing body for athletics in England. We encourage members to register with England Athletics too – especially if you wish to take part in races and running events! We've provided our reasons for joining EA below.

What benefits do I receive if I affiliate with EA?

The primary benefit is being able to represent your club at the county championship races where we compete as a team, but there are also material benefits including:

  • Reduced entry fees for UKA licensed road and multi-terrain events (minimum £2 per event).
  • Discounted products at a range of companies

For a comprehensive and up-to-date list of all benefits associated with EA affiliation, please see: http://www.englandathletics.org/england-athletics/more-information-for-athletes

In addition to the discounts, registering with England Athletics also gives club members a better chance of taking part in the London Marathon. All affiliated athletics clubs can apply to England Athletics for London Marathon places based on the number of members over 18 who are UKA registered. After the London Marathon ballot results are announced, any Leighton Fun Runners who’ve been unsuccessful can enter our Club Ballot. Only EA members are eligible for the club ballot for the London Marathon.

What can't I do if I choose not to affiliate with EA?

Although you can still take part in AAA events, if you're not affiliated your efforts won't be counted towards the team which is always a shame.

 Conclusion

We encourage members to register with England Athletics especially if you want to be active in events, however if you don’t really take part in events, just stick with LFR membership.
